๐ŸžHi!๐Ÿž

Hi! ๐Ÿ›

I just came here to express myself a little bit and talk about why I made this thing. I really like when I get to see why a creator did something, especially if it's something that feels personal, so here are my two cents.

I was kind of sad and on my period the other day in class, and I thought it would be fun to make a little super small game. I had my notebook open, so I doodled a few bugs. I really, really, really love bugs. I've always wanted to make something out of the doodles in my notebook, and I was also wondering what a game about flipping rocks to see bugs underneath would be like.

When I got back home, I opened Godot and made the super simple functionality so I could add bugs with no pressure. I was not planning on finishing it before the semester ended, but by the next day, I could not think of anything else, so I had to finish it and upload it.

What I love about bugs is that to see them, you need to stop for a little bit to look at a plant or a corner. They kind of represent the importance of stopping and enjoying to me. When I find a bug in the street or on a walk, it makes me genuinely happy and thankful to be alive and able to experience that little guy. Also, drawing them in class is a way for me to stay present (and by present, I mean not being in my house skipping class) but with my hands occupied so I don't get more distracted.

This is the first game I've made this personal. Don't get me wrong, I love making games for the sake of learning the skills needed, and I love focusing on mechanics and fun, but this has been the first time that I've put expressing myself first. I think I also got inspired to try and make these things by Nina Freeman's talk at Guadalindie. I really liked this way of working, and I will probably try to make other more personal stuff if I feel like it.

Also, I'm collecting more bugs to add until the end of the semester. It's cool to have my background noise in my head kind of directed to something that is not super time and energy-consuming.

Well, this has been long, and I don't know if this was interesting or impactful to you in any way, but I was going to write about this anyway. Why not leave it here just in case instead of burying it in another notebook?
See you next time!
